This article introduces you to the concept of immortality. It is an ancient belief that has evolved into a modern philosophy. Some people believe that one day death may be conquered, while others claim that immortality is impossible due to physical or chemical limitations. This article will examine these common arguments and present some options for what might happen if it were possible to achieve immortality. Immortal beings are organisms who are able to live indefinitely without aging or dying from natural causes. They are also able to reverse the aging process through technology or magical means, giving them eternal youth and mystical powers in turn. Most people assume that there is no way to achieve this, but some believe that in the far future it will be possible to live forever. Arguments against immortality There are various reasons why people claim that immortality is impossible. Most of these arguments are based on the inevitable physical limits of the human body and mind, and the difficulty it might have in adapting to an immortal existence. The following are some examples: Each cell in our bodies divides approximately every 24 hours (originally doctors believed this number was lower at 24 hours). If our cells can divide repeatedly, after a certain period of time they will create offspring that contains the same number of chromosomes and DNA as the parent cell. The cell is now genetically identical to its parent and is no longer able to divide, making it “immortal” by definition. When we die, this is what happens to our brains and other cells; they reach a point where they stop dividing and begin aging. Some scientists believe that this may apply to entire organisms as well. If humans could live forever without dying or reproducing at some point they would reach a point where over-population would occur. At which point nature kills off populations through famine, disease, or other means in order to reduce their numbers. If it’s impossible for humans to live forever, an immortal population would eventually run out of food and other supplies. The only way to keep eating would be to take from others. In humans this is called cannibalism. Cannibalism does occur in nature, but the chances of this happening on a large scale are very low. Some humans believe that an immortal population would inevitably fight for their own survival, either through violent wars or by waging biological warfare against each other. Either way the result could be a complete annihilation of the species. This isn't a likely outcome since there won't be any reason to fight. There are other species on earth which have no desire to harm each other so why should humans? Adding years of life may be relatively simple, but adding life's experiences takes more consideration. Each year humans gain more knowledge about themselves and the world around them. The accumulation of this information over time gives people the tools they need to solve various problems in their lives. The acquisition of knowledge is what makes being alive worthwhile. If people never "learned" anything then they wouldn't have anything to enjoy or experience during their lifetime. cfa1e77820
